MOVIES

WAR OF THE BUTTONS

This charming film is set in contemporary rural Ireland and focus on the ongoing feud between two rival groups of boys from neighboring towns. On the surface, the movie is tremendously entertaining for the whole family....something of a rarity in most new films. But the plot itself  involves a much deeper theme which I'm sure will be obvious to everyone. VERY enjoyable movie....watch it with your kids.

MICHAEL COLLINS

This epic film opens with the final moments of the Easter Rising 1916 and tells the heart rending tale of Ireland's Civil War and the birth of the Republic. Liam Neeson is absolutely brilliant as Michael Collins, the mastermind behind the guerrilla war against Britain. I give this movie 5 stars....a must see.

THE FIGHTING PRINCE OF DONEGAL

After inheriting his father's title, the young noble Hugh O'Donnell is taken hostage by the English viceroy but escapes to lead an uprising. This is an old one .....released by Disney in 1966. But it does a good job of relating the exploits of "The Red Hugh". Definitely worth watching.

THE SECRET OF ROAN INISH

The Secret of Roan Inish is an American/Irish independent film written and directed by John Sayles, and released in 1994. It is based on the novel The Secret of Ron Mor Skerry, by Rosalie K. Fry. It is centered on the Irish and Orcadian folklores of selkies—seals that can shed their skins to become human. The story, set on the west coast of Ireland, is about Fiona, a young girl who is sent to live with her grandparents and her cousin Eamon near the island of Roan Inish, where the selkies are rumored to reside. It is an old family legend that her younger brother was swept away in his infancy and raised by a selkie. Part of the film takes place in Donegal.

 MY LEFT FOOT

The story of Christy Brown, who was born with cerebral palsy. He learned to paint and write with his only controllable limb - his left foot. The Irish actor Daniel Day Lewis renders an absolutely incredible performance in the lead role. This is a MUST SEE !
